A Poem about Dawn’s Journey and The Phoenix Programme.
I never thought I’d grow up to be that girl
In a world of crime, drugs and abuse, a world of hell
Once you’re living in that place of fear
All day and all night you can shed a tear
The good hidings may come every week, every day
But I’d make an excuse, I’d be told what to say
I’d hide all the bruises, well the ones you can see
How could this be happening to someone like me?
When I was in it, I could see no end
To the physical and mental torture
It sends me round the bend
I ended up keeping it a secret in my head
Lots of the time I’d rather be dead
If any of what I’ve said is happening to you
There is a way out, I’ll tell you what you can do
The Phoenix Group helps people like us
They listen and give advice without any fuss
They’ve taught me that no matter what I’ve been through
I’m worth so much more and so are YOU
I can speak out now and I love myself
The strength I’ve found inside and fixing my mental health
No human being should be abused
We are not a punch bag, mot here to be used
There’s so much more to life, I’m starting to see
I’ve reached out for help, I’m learning I can be free
I hope you believe me I’m telling no lies
The Phoenix Group helps us and lends our cries
Don’t do this alone, the is help out there
Thank you to the Phoenix you’ve answered my prayer.
